A freight train carrying containers at the Pohang Yeongilman Port iron invoice announced a strong first start.

Pohang City announced that the full-scale rail transportation era of container cargo has begun as the commercial operation of the Pohang Yeongil Bay Port railroad began in earnest on the 1st of this month.

The items that will be transported during the first commercial operation are wood pallets imported from Southeast Asia and delivered to power plants, which will transport 40 20-foot containers (TEU) at a time.

Pohang Yeongil Bay Port’s cargo volume has been reliant on trucks because rail transport is impossible. To overcome these weaknesses, Pohang City invested 1696 billion won, and started construction of a railroad opening and iron invoice installation project for 11.3km from Pohang Station to Yeongilman Port in November 2013 and completed in December last year.

The Pohang City reported that the land transport system of Yeongil Bay Port, which had been reliant on truck transport only for the time being, is capable of parallel transportation by rail and truck, so that inland bulk cargo attraction in Daegu, Gyeongbuk and Gangwon Areas will be boosted. Expecting.

Cities with 12 ports of import and export container (6th place in Yeongil Bay Port) nationwide have to expand ports, including expanding related infrastructure and providing various incentives for the development of the port industry, which has a significant impact on the economy, by strengthening jobs and corporate competitiveness in the region. The activation policy is competitively implemented.

Pohang City and Gyeongsangbuk-do have implemented various support measures to attract import and export cargoes in the northeastern region of China and the Far East of Russia, as well as large shippers in North Gyeongsang Province and Gangwon Province. It is putting a lot of effort into increasing the volume of cargo in the Yeongil Bay through consultation.

Pohang City is in discussions with the large shippers, shipping companies, and KORAIL to attract cargo and to add additional freight trains for the first 20 commercial operations of the Yeongil Bay Port railroad in July.

Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “The port industry is a key industry that has a very large ripple effect on the local economy along with the steel industry. In order to strengthen the competitiveness of local companies, it is essential for companies to continuously develop technology and strengthen logistics competitiveness. “We will focus our efforts on creating various measures and infrastructure to reduce support and logistics costs.”
